A Word to the Wise from the not so Wise...

Greetings from the Other One, Darren, Co-Owner of Halcyon Games.
Halcyon Games gets its name from the expression "Halcyon Days" from a Greek tale about calmer, more peaceful times. I remember when Jon and our other gaming buddies met up about creating a games company before we all set off on our various careers, when we were fresh out of school, but we never took the leap.
Well it has come back full circle with the creation of this new journey.
From the early days we spent long sessions playing every Board Game under the sun,
Risk, War of the Ring, Warrior Knights, Rogue Trooper, Dracula, Arkham Horror, Talisman, many unfinished Diplomacy games, endless Role Playing Games sessions, starting with Mr. Gygax's inspirational AD&D, through Call of Cthullhu, Traveller, White Wolf, Amber and many of our own, including Jon's cyberpunk Hunter game. We have had many good times LARPing in the wilds of the English countryside, or cosplaying our D&D sessions in our lounges. We lost many weekends acting out Murder Mysteries that Jon wrote for the infamous Lilly Langtry Hotel in Bournemouth. We built massive fantasy armies using Minifig and early Warhammer lead figures, I was the Elves of course.
Add to all this our 90's obsession with Collectible Card Games like Magic and Vampire the Eternal Struggle, sky-high phone bills from playing Everquest and Warcraft and you have the next best thing to running a gaming company.
So this all brings me ,back to creating this gaming venture with Jon and the birth of Halcyon Games...
My personal journey also includes a lifetime of reading hundreds of Science Fiction and Fantasy novels. Fantasy reading started with Alan Garner's The Weirdstone of Brisingamen found in my school library and the classic J.R.R. Tolkien collection (I read Lord of the Rings at 12 before I even read the Hobbit) and moved onto the likes of Jack Vance and Roger Zelazny. I draw inspiration from all the great writers such as Dick, Moorcock, Heinlein, Asimov, Lovecraft, Rice-Burroughs, M Banks and many many others. As well as our games I am always open to a good discussion on books =)
As to the future for Halcyon Games, who knows? Quentin Tarantino set out trying to give his take on every film genre, well that sounds pretty cool to me, let;'s do the same with games!
Well that's me and gaming in a nutshell =)
"Help I am trapped in a nutshell how did I get in here? Get me out!"
